On Wednesday, the Roos took home a win from the road trip in Rome, NY.
GAME 1, Vs. The Cazenovia College Wildcats
In the first game, Christian Nazario-Cruz started things for the Canton offense by drawing a walk and then stealing second base.  Seth Douglas was hit by a pitch, and was followed up by Jeremy Baez, who sent a shot up the middle and plated Cruz.  Derrick Machado ripped a pitch to left field, which brought Seth around from second to score.  On the mound, Robbie Osterer struck out the Wildcats' four-hitter swinging.  The 2nd batter flew out to center, and then Robbie recorded another strikeout for the final out of the 2nd inning.
Brandon Welch walked to get a runner on the base paths for Canton.
Cruz brought him in to score on a double that he drilled to the base of the left field wall.
Nick Demarais had a huge pinch-hit at-bat in the 7th inning, and brought in two runs when he singled to left.  Vinny Bondinello also had an RBI single in the 7th to keep the RooRally alive, but Canton's late effort came up just short as they lost narrowly, 8-6.
Baez finished the game with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Machado's line was excellent, as he ended up 3/3 with three singles, he was also hit by a pitch, and in addition he collected an RBI.
Chris Jones and Mike McGinn also notched a hit each for the Roo offense.
Robbie had 8 strikeouts in his outing. In relief, Zach Lawrence finished with 6 strikeouts.
GAME 2, Vs. The Cazenovia College Wildcats

In the second game of the two-bill, the Canton offense came alive quickly, and never really turned back. Christian Nazario-Cruz and Wilson Matos walked.  Seth Douglas was then hit by a pitch.  Derrick Machado plated a pair of runs, as Cruz and Matos came around to score.  With runners on the corners, Nick Demarais came through again when he knocked another single through the left side to score another Canton run.
Brandon Welch's clutch was in full swing when he stroked a pitch to left-center and gave the Roos the lead, 9-8 behind Deliberti's pitching. Cruz and Matos both doubled, back-to-back, and brought in 2 runs each. Baez followed along with a triple.
Khalil Bratton struck out 3 on the hill. The bullpen shut down Cazenovia, and Casey Garcia recorded the Kangaroos’ first save of the season in Canton’s 13-11 win over the Wildcats.  Dom Deliberti picked up his second win of the season, and improved to 2-0 on the year.

GAME 1
After a 7:00am sharp departure, we arrived at our destination, Alfred, NY, at about noon, and got some good gourmet pizza from Fox’s Pizzeria.

We got full warmups and batting practice in during our pregame preparations.

The weather was beautiful.  A few white clouds drifted throughout the mostly blue skies of the afternoon.

After two scoreless innings for both sides, Travis Schindler led off with a single to left-center.  Chris Jones brought him up a bag with a sacrifice bunt.  Christian was also hit by a pitch in the inning.  Nick D and Matos backed Travis, who was on the mound, for the first two outs.   Bigelow ended the 3rd himself with a strikeout.   Seth Douglas singles to start the RooRally™. Chris Roenbeck followed up with a hit-and-run on, and drilled a ball to the right-center field wall for an RBI double.
Bigelow pitched a 1-2-3 to finish the inning.

Chris Jones was the Roo that started things back up offensively for Canton in the top of the 5th.  He dropped a hit down the left field line and cruised into second for a leadoff double.  Cruz moved him to third with a bunt.  Wilson Matos plated Jones on a hit, and moved up to second base.
With Travis still on the mound, the Roos escaped the 5th still in control, 3-1.

John Mancini took the mound in relief of Travis.  He shut the door on the Pioneers and kept the score at 3-1.  He stayed in to pitch the 7th as well.  With a runner on first and no outs, he struck out the second batter of the inning looking, and got the next hitter to fly out to center.
With a full count, and two outs, the final batter of the game flew out to Schindler in left field.  The out ended the game with the Roos on Top: 3-1!!
John Mancini picked up the save behind the win of Travis Bigelow.

ROOOOOOOS WIN!

GAME 2
Christian started the second game with a base knock to center.
With Wilson at the dish, Cruz stole second base.  Wilson then dropped a two-base shot into right-center.
The Roos had runners on second and third with 1 out when Seth Douglas stepped to the plate and destroyed a pitch over the left-center field wall for a three run shot.
The Kangaroos had pounced on the Pioneers to take early control of the lead, 3-0.
Derek Harkin was on the rubber for Canton, and he struck out the first batter he faced with a fastball that he blew right by him.  Jesse made a nice play at second on the very nice pitch, and Canton had two quick outs.  Derek then struck out the final batter of the inning.
Jones drove a single to center with 1 out in the second.  In the bottom of the inning, Baez tracked down a fly ball to end the second.  He then dunked a double down the left field line to start the third.
With the Kangaroos down a run in the top of the fifth inning, Wilson Matos struck a shot over the left field wall for a solo shot to tie the game back up.  Dom came into the second game to pitch in the bottom of the 6th.  He inherited a bases loaded situation, with no outs.  He proceeded to work his way out of the jam by making the three batters he faced pop up in the infield.  It was truly a clutch performance from the senior righty to keep the game knotted up at 4.
With an out in the 7th, Matos got to second on a double down the left field line again.  In the bottom of the inning, Dom returned to the rubber to retire the Pioneers in order.  For the final out, he held his ground and snagged a liner back to the mound.
Jesse led off in extra innings immediately with a single to center.  Vinny did work in his at bat.  He placed a bunt perfectly behind the mound, and between the first and second basemen.  It scored Jesse as he brought himself to third base on the play.  Mike McGinn walked.  Chris Jones singled to left to score vinny.  Christian sent a single to right-center.  Wilson stayed incredibly hot with yet another double, this time scoring both runners to increase the Canton lead to 8-4.

“The Boys are Rallying” ~Chris Jones

Seth singled to left, which plated Wilson.  The Kangaroos entered the bottom of the 8th with the lead.  John Mancini came in to close out the Pioneers.  With runners on first and second, Mike McGinn drifted back to the wall and made a great catch on the warning track.  Mancini struck out the next batter looking on a full count.  The out secure the Roos’ second victory of the day.
Seth finished with a 2 hits, including the homer, with 4 RBI's
Wilson notched 3 hits, 3 RBI's, and 3 Runs
Chris Jones, Jesse Barton, and Vinny Bondinello also collected hits.
Derek ended up with 3 strikeouts from the mound.

ROOOOOOS WIN 9-4!!!!

Game 3 of the 4 Game Series; Game 1 of the Day.

The skies were just as clear as Saturday, however a slight wind brought a chill that the previous day had not seen.
Wilson started things with one down by showing patience at the plate, and drawing a walk. He then stole second base.  Chris R was HBP to put the runners on first and second for Jeremy Baez.  Baez lifted a single down the right field line to plate Matos, and give the Roos an early 1-0 lead through 1.  Zach Lawrence worked his way out of a bases loaded jam with 2 outs in the bottom half by ending the Pioneer threat with a strikeout.
Jesse Barton worked a walk, and stole second base in the second.
Back on the mound, ZLaw struck out two batters and sent the Pioneers down 1-2-3.
After drilling a ball foul, Seth took a single to the left side.  He moved to second on a stolen base.
ZLaw had to leave the game early in the third inning with the bases loaded and no outs after he was injured.  He left clearly in pain.  Khalil Bratton faced a jam, similar to Dom the day before.  With the game tied at 1, Khalil got the first batter he faced to fly out to Baez in right.  The runner on third thought about tagging, but Baez showed him that it was a good idea not to go when he beamed a hose to the plate.  Bratton then struck out the next batter.  The third batter Khalil encountered laced a shot down the right field line, but it hooked foul.  The batter didn’t touch the ball again as Khalil blew a fastball by him for strike two, then fooled him with an off-speed pitch for strike three.

Welch led off the 4th with a single that he roped into left.  Jones followed up with a walk.
In the bottom of the 4th, Cruz tracked down a fly to center to record the first out.  Welch tossed out a runner who was on first.  Seth picked the throw and applied the tag for the second out.  After a walk, Welch then shot a throw to second base where Jesse put the tag on, and nabbed the runner trying to steal.
Dobies reached first and Baez took a pitch to center for a single.  Welch pumped the bases full when he reached as well.
Khalil got the first batter of the 5th to fly out to center.  He struck out the next batter after a long battle.  Chris Jones stayed with a grounder and fired to first, recording the final out of the fifth.
Khalil’s pitches really came alive in the 6th inning.  A great mixture of his knee-buckling off-speed, and overpowering fastball kept the Alfred hitters completely off-balance.  He notched two strikeouts on the first two batters and forced a flyout to left.
Dobies sprayed a single to right, and Baez walked in the top of the 7th, but the Roos were kept at bay, and the score remained 1-1.

Bratton struck out the next two batters after battling both of them.  With a 3-2 count and two down, Seth snagged a liner at first for the final out of the frame.  The out kept the score tied up, so the Roos and Pioneers adventured into extra innings.
Jesse started extras like he had the day before, with a single to leadoff.  In the bottom of the inning, he caught a line drive for the first out.  A pop-up to Seth at first was the second out.  Matos was knocked backwards on a sharply hit grounder with some topspin, but he collected himself, and threw a strike to first in time to end the inning.
Seth put a ball to the base of the left field wall for a double to initiate the RooRally™ in the 9th.  Matt Hall, who had pinch run, came to the plate and walked.  Jeremy Baez lined a pitch to right center to follow up, which plated the Roos’ go-ahead run.
Khalil faced the leadoff batter of the bottom of the ninth, but Juan Rosa replaced him.  Khalil ended his outing, finishing with seven strikeouts in six innings of relief.  Juan struck out the first batter he faced in relief.  After getting into a jam, the Roos saw themselves tied back up with Alfred, and the bases were loaded.  Jesse made a good heads-up play by coming to the plate with a throw on a high chopper to get the force out.  But the Pioneers’ next batter ended it with two outs on a walk-off down the third base line.

Baez finished with 3 hits, and 2 RBI's.
Dobies, Welch, Douglas, and Barton also logged Canton hits.

GAME 2--3:30PM

In the bottom of the first, Jesse and Wilson spun a tailor-made double play. Late rallies in the 5th and 6th came up just short for Canton.

Cruz, Matos (3), Douglas, Baez (2), Welch, Barton, Schindler, and Jones all recorded hits.
Baez, Cruz and Matos drove in the Canton runs with their hits.
Matt Hall walked and scored a run.
Jones, Schindler, Welch, Matos (2), and Cruz scored runs.
