First Day of Games, VS. Medaille

March 6, 2015

(Rest of last night)
7:15 pm

After finishing up the final details, and posting the blog last night in the hotel, we boarded the bus again and traveled down the road to Golden Corral. The Paradise of Never-Ending Food.....

And then a Wal-Mart run to cap the night off...

 9:15 pm

When we arrived back to the hotel from the dinner trip, we discovered the Krispy Kreme doughnut shop next door.  The store basically became a team meeting as about 15 players filled the shop.  Doughnuts were a good way to top the night off.

8:44 am

I went down to eat breakfast in the hotel, and there was a group of people that gave our team very nice compliments regarding our professional and classy behavior, stating that we carried ourselves very maturely, which was nice to hear from people observing our guys from the outside.

3:00 pm

After all of the build up, the season officially began with the first game of the double-header against Medaille.
As we got to the field, it was magnificent... Especially to be able to play ball in March on a perfect field:  (Henley Field, Lakeland, Florida)
Watching the Game Before Ours.

John Mancini took the mound for the Kangaroos in the first game.  He blew a fastball for strike three right by the second batter of the 1st inning.  And later in the inning, with the bases loaded and one out, the middle infield combination of Matt Hall and Jesse Barton turned a beautiful double play to end the inning.  Hall started the bottom of the first with an infield single to the right side of the infield.  And again in the top of the second, Hall and Barton showed solid defense play again on two ground balls to retire the first two batters.  After giving up a single, Mancini bounced back to get the next batter to fly out to Travis Schindler in center.

Chris Roenbeck had the Line of the Night after his first at bat in the bottom of the 2nd inning...
After narrowly being thrown out when he put the ball into play in the shortstop hole and hustling down the first baseline:
"Did he bobble that, or am I just that fast?"
In the top of the 3rd, Seth Douglas made an incredible catch after laying out for a shallow popfly in right field. Chris Jones ripped a double in the bottom of the third, and Seth pushed him over to third on a sac fly.  Roenbeck brought in the run and Jesse followed up with a roped single into deep right-center.
In Roenbeck's last at bat of the game he absolutely drilled a shot into the center field wall above a jumping center fielder, and hustled it into a triple.
Greg Dobies hustled and brought Chris home for the last 90 feet to score him on an infield single to short.

In the second billed game of the two game set, Travis Bigelow anchored the pitching with a complete game 2-hitter, with 7 Strikeouts.  He had a no-hitter until the 6th inning when a Medaille Maverick sent a hit to the second base hole up the middle.  On the offensive side, Christian Nazario-Cruz lit the Mavericks up, going 3 for 3, with a walk, RBI, 3 runs, and 2 stolen bases, while also having a few instances of great, aggressive base running.  Brandon Welch went 3-3, and Jeremy Baez added 2 RBI in the SUNY Canton win, marking the first win of the season:
5-2 ROOOOOOS!!
